MICHAEL TERRY HOLCOMB
Born Feb. 2, 1954
Parents -- ALFRED CARL HOLCOMB JR. and SARAH PICCOLA PADGETT
I lived in Pickens County, GA for the first 18 years of my life.
Attended Tate Elementary School grades 1-5. Then we moved to
Jasper where I attended the Jasper Elementary in the 6th grade.
Then we moved near Talking Rock where I attended Talking Rock
Elementary in the 7th grade. I went to the Pickens County High
School in the 8th grade through the 12th grade. My senior year I
attended the Pickens Area Vocational Technical School and
graduated high school in the spring of 1972. After being offered
a job with the Inspirations in September of that year I dropped
out of Tech school.
I was saved July 22, 1964 at the Price Creek Baptist Church
during Wednesday morning revival service. I joined the church
and was baptized that next Sunday in Fishers Creek.
My first time to sing in church was at the age of 4 when they
stood me on the piano bench next to my mother so the
congregation could see me. My first quartet was the Happy
Harmony Quartet where I was the bass singer for the group for
about 18 months. Then a new quartet was formed called the
Deliverance Quartet in which I sang the bass, did the emcee
work, set up the PA system, and did the booking. We were booked
by Mr. Earl Wheeler and the Marksmen on their Labor Day sing in
Cumming, GA with many other groups including the Inspirations,
the Kingsmen, the Hoppers, and the Inspirationals. During the
program I was asked to come and meet the Inspirations and sing a
song with them on their bus. At the end of the day I was asked
to come to their office and practice with them. Then Martin
Cook, their manager, called and asked if I would come prepared
to travel that weekend with them. That was 35 years ago, and I’m
still traveling with them.
I married BAVARIA LYNN MITCHELL of Bryson City, April 25th 1976.
Our son JEREMY "NATHAN" was born August 10, 1977. Our daughter
OLIVIA "NICCOLE" was born March 27, 1979. Our youngest special
blessing was born to our daughter and her late husband, Nathan
Pierce, on June 24, 2005, BAVARIA "AUBREY" PIERCE. We built our
home in Bryson City in 1978 and still reside My life has been
consumed with service to the Lord and my family. Our children
are grown and Bavaria and I have dedicated the time that I am
not singing with the Inspirations to travel in evangelism.
Christ has been the one who has brought all things together, and
has kept us with His abundant grace and mercy. The calling He
placed upon my life is still very real. It is the reason for the
things we do every day.
